Snapped this beauty during my latest garden wander. That glowing flower floating on the water is a Nymphaea ‘Avalanche’ — a type of tropical water lily known for its vibrant colour and sweet, hypnotic scent… Some species of water lily even close at night and reopen with the sun — like floral little showgirls 😍
Their large, round leaves are often called lily pads, and they aren’t just pretty — they help keep the water cool and oxygenated for aquatic life below 🐠
If you look closely, you’ll also see Victoria amazonica leaves nearby — the largest water lilies in the world! They can grow up to 3 metres wide and even support the weight of a small human. How magical is that?! 🌙✨
There’s something so calming and sensual about still water and soft petals…
