Why do I like older men?

I was 18 and I fell in love with my teacher, thinking it was something special. I would catch his eye, linger after class and ask unnecessary questions just to be near him. I came to class early to get a front row seat. Sometimes I stayed after class, asking stupid questions just to hear him answer me. He looked at me as a student - I knew it, I realized it, but I couldn't stop💘

I felt like he felt something too, because sometimes he smiled at me a little longer than others. One day I mustered up the courage to tell him that I was thinking about him too much. He looked at me warmly, but his eyes didn't have what I was hoping for. "You're wonderful, but you still have a lot to learn," he said softly. I felt something inside break, but I nodded, hiding my tears....

The next day I never sat in the front row again and tried not to see his eyes. Years later I remembered that moment with gratitude, but at the time it seemed like the end of the world...
