Here's my rendition of Maid Marian from one of my favorite Disney movies: Robin Hood. I LOVE this movie.
Maid Marian is credit as being one of the earliest feminine heroines from early English. While she doesn't appear in the earliest texts depicting Robin Hood, she was mainstream in his tales by the 1600s, and noted to be accepted in Robin Hood's circle of men because of her courage and independence and, naturally, her beauty.
There are early tales of Maid Marian disguising herself, going to help Robin as he fought enemies in the forests of England, but he himself was also disguised to avoid being found by his enemies.
As a result, the disguised Marian, and disguised Robin Hood battle each other with Marian winning the fight before they tear off their disguises revealing themselves to each other in humor.
Her cleverness and vixen nature was portrayed in the 1973 Disney movie Robin Hood where she is anthropomorphized as a fox.
