I'm 46. I came out of the closet at 23 in the year 2000. During my closeted years in the 1990's, I would buy gay porno mags through the mail or from very off-the-beaten-path gas stations (always hoping the person behind the counter wouldn't ridicule or look at me funny). I would normally get the magazines, bring them home, masturbate like a madman and then immediately throw them away in a faraway public trashcan...out of guilt for having them and out of fear of getting caught if I kept them. As you can imagine, the glossy men that graced the pages of those mags gave me unimaginable ecstasy during the brief time that I had them. My absolute favorite during this time was Lukas Ridgeston. Jesus he was gorgeous. When my NYC photographer friend Austin wanted to capture me amidst and enjoying a huge collection of magazines from this time period, first off, I couldn't have been more thrilled. Next, I had no trouble getting hard as a rock. And finally, it made me extremely proud. While the industry has changed dramatically from magazines and VHS tapes, I'm now a player in it...and jeez if I'm able to give even one person the pleasure given to me during that challenging time, then I'll consider it a monumental success and my small way of giving back.
